A chef who vanished more than two weeks ago has been found dead, leaving his devastated family trying to raise thousands of pounds to bring his body home.

Dener Marcos Guieiro was last seen in the early hours of July 4 after leaving for work.

The 28-year-old had lived in Hackney, East London, for six years and was working as a chef.

After he was reported missing, the Metropolitan Police issued an appeal and released a photograph of Mr Guieiro, saying officers were concerned for his welfare.

His family have now confirmed he was found dead on July 18 in a wooded area of Hackney after his body had lain undiscovered for more than two weeks.

He was originally from Belo Horizonte in Brazil.

His twin sister, Ana Luiza Guieiro, said police contacted the family in Brazil to inform them of the discovery.

In an online fundraising appeal, she wrote: “My twin brother passed away in London, far from home, family and everyone who loved him.

“Beyond the immeasurable pain of this loss, we are facing a challenge that is beyond our financial means – bringing his body back to Brazil so we can say goodbye with dignity and allow him to rest alongside those who always loved him.

“Every contribution, regardless of the amount, brings us closer to this final act of love.

“If you can’t help financially, sharing this campaign will also make a huge difference.”

The crowdfunding campaign is aiming to raise around £9,500 to cover the cost of repatriating his body.

Before his death was confirmed, Ana Luiza said she had spoken to her brother every day.

“We talk every day, even if it’s just to say hi.

“July 3 was the last time I had contact with him,” she told Brazilian media.

She said a colleague contacted the family after Mr Guieiro failed to turn up for work on July 4.

Police later told relatives CCTV footage showed him getting into his car carrying his wallet and a black briefcase before he disappeared.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers had found the body of a man matching Mr Guieiro’s description on July 18.

They haven’t publicly identified the deceased and the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.
