A self-proclaimed “English prude” has called for nudist beaches to be banned after claiming they are full of “perverts” and “spoil” the coast.
Annette Kellow, 42, was persuaded by a friend to strip off for what she was promised would be a liberating experience.
But the writer claims her one and only visit to a nudist beach instead left her feeling exposed and “very vulnerable”.

And Annette has now vowed never to bare all again, while questioning why nudist beaches are needed at all.
“This is not a place of liberation, it’s stifling and full of perverts,” Annette, from London, told Need To Know.
“These beaches are not a place for people to get an even tan – it’s for old men who want to look at people.
“I for one will be avoiding them like the plague.
“I’m more than happy to be an English prude.”
Annette’s naked nightmare began when a friend who regularly visited nudist beaches convinced her to tag along.
The pair headed to Sandy Hook beach in New Jersey, US, in 2023, where Annette claims hundreds of people were waiting to get their kit off.
Nervous about stripping down, she remained fully clothed on her towel for around an hour before finally summoning the courage to join her fellow beachgoers in their birthday suits.
But Annette claims it wasn’t long before the experience began making her skin crawl.
She said: “My friend said it would be liberating and free, it sounded very hippy.
“I was scared but she made it sound so amazing so I decided to go ahead and join her.
“We found a spot and set our towels down where I stayed in my clothes for about an hour.
“But in the end I took them off and started to notice a number of weird scenarios.
“The first man who came up to us asked where the smoothie bar was – completely naked.
“You have to realise that we were both sitting down and he was standing up so it was very overbearing.
“Minutes later another guy laid his towel down next to us and started using baby oil everywhere.
“There seemed to be a psychological aspect to it that because we had our clothes off, we were down for anything.”
Annette claims she and her friend had a string of interactions with older naked men during their day at the beach.
She said the attention felt completely different to anything she had experienced on a normal seaside trip.
Annette said: “During a normal trip to a beach you hardly have any interactions with other people on the sand.
“Even when you’re in a group of girls, you may get one man come up to you but this was something else.
“We seemed to be the only women there who weren’t with a male companion.
“One naked couple came to check on us with the man even claiming he’d help protect us.
“I felt very vulnerable on that day and in the end I wrapped myself in a towel until it was time to leave.”
And it wasn’t just the unwanted attention that put Annette off naturism for life.
She was also left nursing sunburn in places that had rarely seen daylight – as well as battling sand everywhere.
She said: “My bottom has never seen the bare sun, maybe when I was two.
“It was very problematic, I was very sun burnt and very sandy which was not comfortable.
“I’d rather have a tan line from my swimsuit than have to visit a nudist beach again.”
Annette has since sworn off ever visiting another naturist spot and believes beaches in the UK should face greater restrictions and surveillance.
Annette added: “We have decency laws and there is a reason for that.
“Boundaries were crossed on that beach.
“I think naturists should be aware of other people’s values and not impose it as a god given right to walk around naked.
“I do believe the UK beaches should be under better surveillance and be clearly sign posted.
“There is a danger of families stumbling onto these places without realising.
“I’m more than happy to be an English prude.
“From now on it’s swim suits all the way – I’ll never be going naked again.”

It’s a sad state of affairs, but naturist beaches need to be patrolled just like any other and steps taken should anyone step out of line. Unfortunately naturist beaches are normally stuck right out of the way, without facilities, not even a toilet and hardly ever get visited by any of the authorities, so things happen. Put them near civilization and this would stop. However this behavior goes on everywhere not just on naturist beaches,so banning them isn’t the answer. Naturists are generally nice friendly people who keep themselves to themselves. Visit a naturist club instead !
So because this person was woefully unprepared for sun exposure and heavens sake get sandy at a beach, parrish the thought, and that people had the actual audacity to speak to her in a normal way! She thinks that nude beaches should be banned and that enjoyment should be denied to the entire population who have the exact opposite experience? How selfish, egocentric and controlling of her! It sounds like a personal psychological issue for her and she should probably seek medical assistance with that. So she’s never going back to any nude beach and that experience should be denied to those who appreciate and enjoy it, how selfish! If I don’t completely enjoy my bad experience I had then neither should anyone else!
