A dad was killed in a horror car crash while training to run 60 miles for charity just one day after landing a promotion at work.

Perrie Bensted, 35, died after the black Mini he was driving smashed into the protective parapet of a bridge.

The warehouse supervisor had launched a challenge to cover 60 miles throughout August to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

But tragically, Perrie was killed just eight days into the month-long fundraiser, as reported by Need To Know.

His death came just a day after he learned he was being promoted at work, according to the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.

Perrie leaves behind his partner Jo and their two-year-old daughter Rosie, whom his devastated family said he doted on.

His cousin Rochelle McMullan said becoming a dad had “completed” Perrie and made him immensely proud.

She said: “Perrie was still young and had his whole life ahead of him.

“He had a daughter who he doted on.

“She is still so young and does not understand where her daddy has gone.

“Having Rosie completed him, as did his partner Jo. He was so proud and happy.

“The little unit they formed together and the love between them was unreal.

“The loss of Perrie is horrific. As a family, we are distraught.”

Rochelle has now launched a GoFundMe to help Perrie’s family cover his funeral costs.

She said her cousin had not made funeral plans or put money aside because he was so young.

Rochelle added: “I am trying to relieve some pressure on his family by raising money to help towards the cost of his funeral.

“Any donations would be a massive help, no matter how little.”

The fatal collision happened at around 4:35am on Saturday (8 August), on Hardwater Road in Wollaston, near Wellingborough.

Police said no other vehicles were involved and are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: “The collision happened at about 4:35am on Saturday, August 8 in Hardwater Road, when the driver of a black Mini was in collision with a bridge parapet. No other vehicles were involved.

“The driver, a man in his thirties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he later sadly died.

“Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured footage on a dash-cam.”

HM Senior Coroner for Northamptonshire Anne Pember confirmed to Jam Press that the case had been referred to her.

Nobody deserves to die of course but he was not the angel he was made out to be.

Previously drove that car without insurance, etc. aggressively and running red lights and getting into road rage incidents.
It’s all out there, Just google his name and see how many times he’s been on the wrong side of the law.
