A major sea search for a missing 14-year-old boy has been called off after rescuers failed to spot any sign of him.

HM Coastguard was alerted at around 3:30pm on Sunday (30 August) after reports that three people were in difficulty in the water at Marloes Sands beach in Pembrokeshire.

Two managed to get out safely, but the teenage boy remained missing, as reported by Need To Know.

A huge multi-agency rescue operation was launched, with RNLI lifeboats, coastguard teams, aircraft, police and other vessels searching the area.

The initial search continued for around eight hours before crews were stood down at around midnight.

Angle RNLI returned to sea on Monday to continue the operation.

Crews carried out extensive searches along the coastline and around Skomer and Skokholm Islands before joining a further search of Marloes Sands alongside a Coastguard drone team.

The operation was formally suspended at 7:30pm on Monday after no sign of the teenager was found.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said there were currently no plans to resume the search.

It said: “Sadly, no sign of the missing person was found.”

Angle RNLI said its crew had spent more than 22 hours at sea during the operation.

A spokesperson said: “A huge thank you to our crew who have shown immense dedication over the past two days, and a thank you goes to Milford Haven Coastguard for their fantastic coordination and support in what has been a lengthy and tiring incident for our crew.

“Our thoughts are with the swimmers family and friends at this difficult time.”

A Little and Broad Haven lifeboat spokesperson added: “Our crew spent many hours supporting a multi-agency search coordinated by HM Coastguard from Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August, following reports of a missing swimmer at Marloes Sands.

“We would like to thank everyone involved in the search effort.

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the missing person.”

Henry Tufnell MP said: “My thoughts are with the missing individual and those closest to him during this difficult wait, as we pray for his safe return.

“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the RNLI, HM Coastguard, the Welsh Ambulance Service, and all emergency personnel involved.

“Their relentless efforts, searching tirelessly through the night in remote conditions, represent extraordinary dedication.

“I remain deeply thankful for their continued hard work.”
