A dad-of-one with an undiagnosed heart condition died in his hotel room in Benidorm after taking cocaine during a Champions League away trip to Spain.

Guy Bradshaw, 35, from Wythenshawe, was found dead in his room at Hotel Placidia, just hours before Manchester City were due to play Villarreal further up the coast.

Guy, who ran his own carpet cleaning business, most likely died as a result of a combination of an undiagnosed heart condition, cardiomyopathy, and cocaine use, an inquest heard.

Spanish authorities discovered a “white powdery substance consistent with cocaine” in his room, along with bottles of alcoholic drinks and vapes, as reported by Need To Know.

Post-mortem and toxicology examinations, carried out first in Spain and then in the UK after his body was repatriated, both found Guy had been suffering from cardiomyopathy, with his urine also showing the presence of cocaine.

Guy had travelled to Spain on 21 October 2025 with close friends to watch his beloved Manchester City.

His sudden death sparked an outpouring of tributes from his community at the time.

A GoFundMe page set up in his memory describes him as a “much-loved Son, Brother, Dad, friend, and true Wythenshawe legend” who “sadly passed away suddenly whilst in Benidorm.”

It reads: “No one could have imagined that this would end in such tragedy.

“Guy was the life and soul of every room – a big character with an even bigger heart.

“He was loved by so many across Wythenshawe and beyond.

“His quick wit, warm smile, and kind nature touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

“But above all, Guy was a devoted dad. His beautiful daughter Ava was his absolute world. He spoke about her with so much pride and love, and their bond was something truly special.”

The fundraiser has since raised more than £36,000, smashing its original £35,000 target with donations from over 1,000 supporters.

Wythenshawe FC also paid tribute to Guy, revealing a minute’s silence was held for him.

A post on the club’s Facebook page read: “Guy, a Wythenshawe local, tragically passed away whilst following his beloved Manchester City in Spain this week, and we would like to send our deepest condolences to Guy’s family and friends.”
