Maritime rescue teams, tourist police and port officials rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised in Cancún, Mexico, on Friday (25 Sep) afternoon.
Videos of the unusual mishap quickly spread across social media, attracting crowds of motorists and pedestrians.
The channel was blocked while crews worked out how to free the vessel without causing further damage.
No one was injured and emergency medical treatment was not required.
Authorities have not officially confirmed what caused the yacht to become trapped.
Local reports suggested the vessel may have exceeded the permitted height or that those onboard had misjudged the tide.
The State Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation to establish responsibility, as reported by Need To Know.
Meanwhile, the Port Captaincy is overseeing efforts to extract the yacht.
Checks are also being carried out on the bridge to establish whether it suffered any structural damage in the collision.
Authorities had not given a firm timetable for reopening the waterway.
