Comedian Paul Foot claims to have had his first burp just two weeks ago.

He said only found out what a belch was in January after a conversation with a friend.

Beforehand the funnyman would release a “violent sound” which sounded like he was “being sick.”

Paul then discovered he had a rare condition called Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction – or no-burp syndrome.

The comic, 49 has since been training himself with YouTube videos in a bid to learn how to burp.

And he successfully managed his first belch when changing his record player last month.

Funnyman Paul said: “It sounds ridiculous.

“I’m in good health but I have one weird thing about me.

“Which I only realised eight months ago.

“I used to have sparkling water or anything sparkling like spark cherry cola then I would go all bloated inside.

“Then if I had all rich food I would have to go to the loo and release it in a violent way that sounded like I was being sick.

“I was at the Dorchester Hotel having a Michelin star meal and I said can you show me where the loo is.

“Then I went in and there were some really rich people and I just made a vomit sound.

“But it’s all the gas coming up all violently anyway and I couldn’t work out what it is

“I thought I was swallowing air as I was eating and air was going in.

“Then suddenly with a friend a few months ago and they said ‘Ooh, I just did a little burp there.

“And I said ‘What is burp?’

“Because I didn’t really know what a burp was – I didn’t know, I had heard the word.

“Then I discovered you can burp either loudly or silently.

“But the point is I realised never in my whole life I had never burped, ever.

“I didn’t know what it was.

“So I’ve been training myself in burping because I looked it up online. It’s quiet rare what I’ve got.

“But you can have it done under general anaesthetic. You can have botox injected down in the mouth to help you burp.

“It opens it up and you can burp after that.

“I’ve been training. I saw an internet video of a man trying to do a burp.

“Then one time after brushing my teeth I managed to get my mouth all full of toothpaste and then do a belch.

“And I have more recently been able to release all the gas in a vomitty way but less loudly.

“I can’t release anything other than a weird vomit sound.”

The comedian finally had success with his first burp just last month.

He added: “Strangely enough two weeks ago I was changing a record on my record player and I suddenly did a burp.

“And that’s the first time in my entire life.

“But I haven’t done one since.

“It’s maybe a hope.

“And the next step will be another burp and then next a silent burp which is like a real pipe dream to me.

“I’m more likely to be in panto with Christopher Biggins

“Not that I want to – it’s unlikely but still.”

No burp syndrome is a rare condition – and is often misdiagnosed as acid reflux or irritable bowel syndrome.

It is when the cricopharyngeus muscle fails to relax for burping – trapping the burp between the stomach and the esophagus.

The condition was only recently discovered in 2019.

Most people learn to burp at two-months-old.

Botox injections every six months can help with the condition.
