A comic has won a court case against Michael Jackson’s estate to continue his impersonation of the Thriller star.

The legal row was over Cristián Henríquez’s comedy character ‘Maikel Pérez Jackson’.

The character was made famous on the Chilean TV show ‘Morandé con Compañía’, which stopped broadcasting in 2021 after over two decades on air.

The comedian tried to register the character’s name at the Chilean Institute of Industrial Property.

However, Triumph International, which represents the rights of Michael Jackson, challenged the application that year.

Lawyers argued that the character could cause ‘unfair competition’ and ‘confusion among fans’.

Henríquez battled Triumph International in court and initially thought he’d won when the judge ruled in his favour.

However, Jackson’s estate launched an appeal and the case went to the Chilean Supreme Court.

The appeal was rejected this week and Henríquez is now free to register the character’s name.

The comic posted a clip on Instagram for his 156,000 followers to celebrate the win.

The video shows Henríquez walking along a pavement as the Jackson character while flanked by his ‘entourage’.

The heavies rob a passerby of his backpack and Jackson is seen rummaging through the items shortly afterwards.

In a high voice, he tells his followers that he won the case and promised to continue sharing Maikel Pérez Jackson content on his profile, as reported by Need To Know.

Henríquez wrote: “Thank you for all the support, comedy won.”
