A much-loved TV actress has died in a hospice aged 53 after a five-year battle with brain cancer.

Mum-of-three Anastasia Zavorotnyuk played Nanny Victoria in the popular Russian comedy series ‘My Fair Nanny’.

It aired in the 2000s and was based on the American sitcom ‘The Nanny’.

Anastasia’s passing was announced by her family on Thursday (30 May).

Their social media post said: “It’s hard to comprehend and find the right words. Our Nastya passed away last night after a long and difficult illness.

“We want to thank each and every one of you who sincerely wished her well, prayed for her health, and believed. Nastya always felt and deeply appreciated your support.”

It was in 2019 that Anastasia was given the devastating news that she had a glioblastoma – a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumour.

She received hormone therapy, experimental vaccines, and radiation therapy.

She also underwent a craniotomy in Germany, as reported on Need To Know.

Thanks to the treatment, the cancer retreated.

But it resurged and metastasized, spreading to her bone marrow.

Her loved ones told of the heartbreak of seeing her gain significant weight due to the hormone therapy before wasting away to the point where she couldn’t even get out of bed.

Prior to her passing, even President Vladimir Putin is reported to have been given updates about her treatment.

Anastasia leaves behind her three kids Anna, Michael, and Mila.

She is also survived by her mother Valentina Borisovna and her third husband, 53-year-old Russian-American ice dancer Peter Tchernyshev.

The average glioblastoma survival time is 12-18 months.
