An AI robot has gone for a walk on the Great Wall of China but eagle-eyed tech fans have spotted something strange on its frame.

The humanoid, dubbed XBot-L, appears to have a strip of duct tape across its midriff, as reported on Need To Know.

Designed by Robot Era, the company presented a video of its creation with YouTubers blown away by the tech.

‘Our robot, Xbot, equipped with advanced perceptive reinforcement learning, confidently faces these challenges [of the Great Wall of China] and marches forward’.

In the clip, the humanoid robot walks, walks up a set of stairs, waves and even performs the Chinese martial art of Tai Chi.

The AI is black and white, but for a little red heart on its chest.

“These innovations give a boost to XBot-L’s ability to navigate rugged, uneven terrain, stably climb up winding stairs and adapt to various environments, including the Great Wall’s dark archways,” reads an excerpt from the caption.

While the tech is undoubtedly impressive, many viewers are understandably cracking jokes at the duct tape seen on the robot’s frame.

Later on in the video, it appears to have been partially removed, with writing visible underneath it.

“That’s exactly how I walk after a three day bender, except I don’t need duct tape to hold me together,” said Hedington.

“WOW! I can hardly tell that it’s a machine!,” added someone else.

Another person said: “Love the duct tape.”

“I like this robot. It will just improve from here,” said someone else.

Another viewer added: “This proves duct tapes can fix anything.”

Someone else said: “Love how it’s already in duct tape. Demonstrating a more realistic vision of the future.”

“We know for sure now that duct tape manufacturers will be safe. It won’t disappear in the future when robots take over,” joked another viewer.

Someone else added: “This is pretty cool, just a bit slow, but at least it walks about more human like than others I’ve seen.”
