Fancy the idea of relocating to Thailand? Now, remote workers can enjoy an extended stay in the country with a new digital nomad visa.

Thailand’s “digital nomad visa” permits foreigners to live and work in the country for up to five years, eliminating concerns about immigration or taxes.

This visa allows holders to stay for 180 days at a time, with an option to extend for another 180 days, costing 10,000 baht (approximately £213.75). However, to maintain this status, visa holders must leave and re-enter Thailand every 180 days and pay an additional £212.20 each time.

Details on the application process are still forthcoming, but some requirements have been outlined:

Applicants must be at least 20 years old, have sufficient funds to cover the visa fees, show proof of at least £10,687 in their bank account, and provide evidence of employment with a registered company.

Previously, digital nomads were limited to tourist visas, allowing a maximum stay of 60 days in Thailand. The introduction of this visa aims to boost tourism and attract long-term visitors.

Thailand joins a growing list of countries offering digital nomad visas or similar options:

  • Spain: The remote work visa allows non-EU nationals to live and work in Spain for up to five years.
  • Portugal: Offers a visa for up to five years.
  • Italy: Introduced in 2022, it permits a stay of one year, with an option to extend.
  • Croatia: Grants temporary stays of up to one year.
  • Greece: The digital nomad visa provides legal residence for up to a year, with the possibility of applying for a longer residence permit.
  • Estonia: Allows remote workers to stay temporarily for up to a year.
  • Montenegro: The visa is a temporary permit for non-EU remote workers, allowing a stay of up to two years.
  • Malaysia: The DE Rantau Nomad Pass lets foreigners stay for up to 12 months initially, with an option to renew for another 12 months.
  • Indonesia: The visa allows a stay of up to 180 days, with potential for further extensions.
  • Costa Rica: The nomad scheme permits international residents to work remotely for up to a year, with an option to renew for an additional year.
  • Dubai: The remote working visa is valid for one year.

This trend of digital nomad visas is opening new possibilities for remote workers worldwide, making it easier to live and work in diverse and exotic locations.
