A cruel man was caught keeping THIRTY EIGHT greyhounds in his garage and conservatory.

Daniel Simpson had the dogs and puppies in pens with no food or water.

The pooches were so hungry some were eating their own poo.

One of the greyhounds in 45-year-old Simpson’s house had a broken leg.

Six of the pups were malnourished and all the females – used for breeding – had bad teeth.

Cops raided his home in South Drive, in the village of Ormseby, North Yorks – just south of Middlesbrough.

The RSPCA was called to care for the greyhounds.

Simpson admitted five offences contrary to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 – including one of breeding dogs without a licence.

He has now been banned from keeping animals for ten years after being sentenced at Teesside Magistrates Court.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “The Italian greyhounds, including several nursing females, were discovered in the garage and conservatory of the property by the police, who called in the RSPCA.

“The adult and juvenile dogs and puppies, who ranged in age from three to 14 weeks, were living in nine wire pens on urine-soaked bedding with no food or toys, and only one of the enclosures had water available.

“All of the breeding females had severe dental disease, one had a broken front leg, and six of the 19 puppies were malnourished.”

In her written evidence to the court, RSPCA Inspector Clare Wilson said: “I went through to the conservatory and found a number of dogs and puppies in crates around the edges of the room.

“There were also dog pens in the garage outside containing more dogs and puppies.

“I counted 38 dogs and puppies, which were all Italian greyhounds.”

Most of the dogs have now been rehomed, as reported by Need To Know.

Simpson was also given an 18-month community order and told to pay costs of £990.

In mitigation, the court was told he needed help for a drink problem.
