Two women were left outraged after claiming they were banned from a cathedral for wearing short skirts.

Arantxa Gomez tried to enter the place of worship with a friend when they were both stopped.

The young women both queued and had purchased tickets to visit when they said a staff member told them that they would not be allowed to go inside.

She said she offered to buy a handkerchief so that she could cover up her legs and also offered to place her jacket around her waist.

They claimed, however, they were told that they could not have any parts of their leg on show.

They were attempting to enter the Catedral de Sevilla in Spain.

Explaining the moment in a video that has been viewed over 85,000 times on TikTok, Arantxa alleged: “My friend and I are at the cathedral of Seville with our corresponding ticket, we have queued and everything.”

“They tell us when we enter – the director comes and tells us that with this skirt we can’t enter.

“I wanted us to buy a handkerchief to cover ourselves and we said, ‘Well, we will put the jacket at the waist’.

“He tells me, ‘You can’t see your legs’. You can see my knee.

“He says he sees a little hole.”

She shows what she is wearing in her video which appears to be a jumper with a navy blue pleated skirt with some knee-high boots.

Her friend wears a white skirt, with a long sleeve crop top and holds a jacket.

Both skirts appear to be cut above their knees, leaving parts of their legs exposed.

Arantxa felt the request was unacceptable, and didn’t feel that it was necessary for her to cover up her knee.

She retaliated and attempted to reason with the man who had stopped them.

She continues by saying: “And I told him, ‘It’s just that we are in 2024 and I don’t have to pay for a handkerchief because I can’t see anything, I can see a knee hole of nothing’.”

“He jumps at me, ‘Well, this is a church’, and he continues to explain.”

In the clip, Arantxa was visibly irritated by what she and her friend had encountered.

She stated that she understands respect, but that she did not feel that her clothing was disrespectful in any way.

“I don’t think Jesus Christ is going to come down and insult me,” Arantxa, who is from Spain, said.

“I don’t understand. I understand respect and everything, but it’s not something I’m disrespecting.”

Her video has sparked a debate online, with many disagreeing with the young woman’s view on the situation, as reported by Need To Know.

Javier wrote: “It’s disrespectful. A few years ago they didn’t let me in wearing shorts. It’s assumed and nothing happens. It’s a place of worship (which you share or not) and they have the right of admission. The end of it.”

Antonio commented: “You lack a lot of culture. Look, try to enter a mosque or a synagogue with that same outfit and then tell me!”

“Really, you don’t understand,” remarked a third user.

Maria added: “No comments on this video.”

“That’s right, they are rules and they must be followed,” said someone else.

The Catedral de Sevilla has been approached for comment.
