A stabbed man was seen crawling on the floor with a knife stuck in his back after he was knifed during an argument.

He put down his rucksack and slowly got down onto his front as stunned bystanders looked on.

The knife handle could be seen protruding from between his shoulder blades and there were bloodstains down his top.

Detectives believe the man and his attacker knew each other from the soup kitchen they attended.

They believe an argument broke out between the men as they met en route to the meal centre to get fed.

At some point during the row, the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the 64-year-old Polish national in the back.

He then fled the scene, leaving the victim to seek help at a nearby establishment, where he lay down on the floor.

The emergency services were called, and responding paramedics gave the man first aid at the scene.

He was then taken to a local hospital in Las Palmas, in Gran Canaria where he underwent surgery.

It is popular with Brit expats and holidaymakers.

Over 24,000 originally from the UK live in the Canary Islands and over four million holiday there each year.

The gruesome attack happened at about 10am on Sunday (30 March), as reported by Need To Know.

About two hours later, the 44-year-old suspect turned himself in at a local police station and confessed to the crime.

The case remains under investigation.

The stabbing was the third in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in March.

Also in the city last month, there was a fistfight involving a machete between two men, the attempted robbery of an armoured van, three ram raids, the alleged abduction of a man and several violent robberies.

Police have warned of “a rise in insecurity” in the city.
