Ionuț was reportedly behind the wheel when their lorry struck a broken-down HGV on the hard shoulder.
The impact caused their vehicle to quickly burst into flames.
Trapped in the cab, the couple was unable to get out.
The fatal smash took place on the C-25 highway near Santa Coloma de Farners in Catalonia, Spain, last Thursday (26 Mar).
The fire ended up scorching half a hectare of vegetation on the side of the road.
Thick black smoke was visible from miles away as traffic came to a gridlock for many hours.

The blaze partially burned the other lorry involved.
The driver, a 56-year-old man, was injured in the crash and was transported by medical helicopter to the Doctor Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona.
The couple, who both came from Dâmbovița County in Romania, had only been married for a few months, as reported by Need To Know.
They had moved to Spain with dreams of a better life and both used social media to create content and build a following.

The police suspect that Ionuț was not paying full attention to the road when he allegedly crashed into the broken-down lorry.
They said there were no signs of braking just before impact.
The investigation is ongoing.
According to reports, between 300,000 and 400,000 Romanian lorry drivers operate in Europe, mainly in countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.
