A woman has transformed her hallway into a “bold and fun” space using just three items.
Kerry Lemon, 37, from Shropshire, has been inspired to renovate her three-storey home into a colourful paradise – all while on a budget.
For her latest DIY project, she has tackled her “drab” hallway – which previously had plain, neutral walls and carpeting.
She purchased pink paint for £60, varnish for £16 and bought gold leaf for £20, to add a pop of luxuriousness.
Kerry said: “I wanted the hallway to be an interesting space to walk through and be something that brings a smile to my face.
“I wanted it to make an instant impact. I find pink one of the happiest colours, so I knew I needed pink somewhere in the home.
“When thinking about what I wanted the hallway to do, it made perfect sense to paint it pink.
“I suppose there isn’t really a style I stick to, as I just kind of go with how I feel at the moment.”
Firstly, she painted the lower half of the wall with hot pink and contrasted the shade with white on the top half.
After adding various pieces of quirky artwork to the walls, which say ‘get happy’, ‘be kind’ or ‘rollin’ with the homies’, the staircase looked unrecognisable from its original state.
As Kerry realised that the stairs were a “high traffic” area, she didn’t want to use carpet again, so decided to paint her stairs in the same shade.
She said: “I painted the stairs the same pink as the walls, which really made the whole area pop.
“For extra impact, I used imitation gold leaf on the stair risers.”
Accented with greenery, striking mirrors and animal print rugs, the space could now brighten anyone’s day.
As a final touch before guests leave, a wall hanging which reads ‘It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later’ is placed next to the vivid pink front door.
In total, the project cost just £116 to complete.
Kerry decided to upload the easy process on Instagram, where she has received 41,700 views on one post.
In the clip, she begins by sticking on the gold leaf sheets to the front of each step, before smoothing out the creases with a damp cloth.
As she removes the excess material, the final product produces a shiny, mirror effect.
Users took to the comments to express their love for the transformation.
“Looks good,” one viewer commented.
Another person added: “OMG!!!! I absolutely love it!!!!” [sic]
“So so satisfying!! And you make way less mess than me doing it,” someone else wrote.
One person said: “These are so stinkin cute!” [sic]
“You’ve done such a fab job of it…’ another person added.
Kerry has previously upcycled other pieces of furniture, such as an old shoe cabinet which she transformed with leftover vinyl and black paint.
She loves upcycling, as she believes this gives an old piece of furniture a new lease of life.
By using her skills, she’s managed to keep costs low while decorating her humble abode.
She added: “When it comes to colour, just go for it – you won’t be disappointed.
“A house should be home and I’m addicted to creating bold, interesting rooms.”
