A woman whose boyfriend dumped her has revealed how the heartbreak led her to find the love of her life – his ex-girlfriend.
Destiny Wachter was left devastated when her partner Nick walked out after four years together, leaving her and her young son heartbroken.
But what seemed like the end of the 29-year-old’s world turned out to be the beginning of a surprising love story.

After the split, the pair’s mutual friend Allison moved in with Destiny and eventually helped connect her with Nick’s former partner, Elizabeth Kramer, 28.
What began as a supportive friendship soon blossomed into romance.
Now the pair are engaged and planning their wedding.
“When Nick left, for a moment, it felt like I watched my whole life walk away from me,” Destiny, from Lafayette, Georgia, US, told Need To Know.

“I mourned him for many months. So did my child.
“The first few days I was inconsolable. Weeks after, I was still struggling to soothe myself.
“What I thought we had was so special to me then, and I was crushed.
“I had to rewrite my life as a single mom all over again, and that was intimidating.
“Living life alone again was something I wasn’t emotionally prepared for at the time.”
Allison moved in with the sole intention of helping her friend navigate a difficult breakup.

What she didn’t plan on was playing matchmaker for both of Nick’s exes.
Destiny said: “Allison moved in with me after Nick left to help me with the grief of losing my partner.
“Elizabeth reached out to Allison, and I invited her over personally to hear her side of the story on their relationship.
“We became close friends quickly and developed a crush on one another.
“But we did not say anything for a couple of months, until she finally initiated our first kiss.”
Elizabeth, who also goes by Libby, had been in a relationship with Nick, 30, for nine years and eventually grew apart before he later started dating Destiny.
Destiny said: “I was genuinely excited to make a friend.

“It wouldn’t have been the first time I’ve befriended an ex’s ex, so this wasn’t my first rodeo.
“When I started to notice I was getting nervous around her, and wanting to kiss her, I thought there was no way she’d ever go for me simply because I was Nick’s ex-girlfriend.
“I never thought in a million years she felt the same.”
But before the pair fell in love, Destiny admitted she was told ‘not very kind’ things about Libby.
Despite having ‘no true opinion’ of Libby, she was cautious of Nick’s ex during their time together.
Destiny explained: “I was told not very kind things about her, but truly, deep down, I had no true opinion of her.
“I admired her beauty in secret, and kept it to myself that I thought she was beautiful.
“I mean, what current girlfriend wants to say that about the ex, you know.
“I won’t lie, I had a weird feeling eventually; something was going to happen between us.
“I didn’t know what, but I could feel it.”
The pair officially declared their love for one another on 1 July last year (2025) and are now engaged.
They are due to marry on 1 May next year (2027).
Destiny proposed just a month and a half after being together.
Destiny explained she identifies as a bisexual woman and Libby had spent four years with a woman prior to the pair meeting.
She said: “I never envisioned spending my life with a woman until meeting Libby.
“I had been in a previous relationship with a woman briefly, but nothing serious.

“Libby spent four years with a woman prior to me. They broke up right before we acknowledged our feelings for each other.”
Despite the couple’s clear love for one another, it has caused rifts within her family.
She said: “I could feel it was right.
“I set up a little area outdoors; my dear friend supplied her engagement ring, which was actually her dream ring, and she said yes.
“My dad’s side of the family does not approve, and neither does one of my family members on my mother’s side.
“However, Libby’s family loves it.”
Destiny, an exotic dancer and certified medical assistant, admits she once believed Nick was her soulmate and was crushed when the shop foreman left her.
She said: “Nick made me the happiest I had been until Libby.
“He was truly my best friend, and I loved him wholeheartedly.
“We also met through Allison. I was invited around for a movie night at her house, and Nick was there.

“I really thought we would spend our lives together.
“I was completely devastated, so was my eight-year-old.”
The former couple have had no contact since the breakup, but the 29-year-old believes their newfound love would anger Nick.
Destiny said: “He spent nine years with Libby, and nearly four with me; I’d imagine that would raise the hair on someone’s back.”
Destiny says Libby, who works in childcare, helped her recover from the pain of the split and restored her belief in love.
She added: “Libby and I have worked insanely hard at our relationship over the last year.
“She’s been so patient with me.
“I’ve never had someone care so much for me, or want to love me in my own love language so much.

“I genuinely believe every moment with Nick led me to this with Libby.
“This journey has been so hard, but so beautiful.
“Libby has made me the luckiest person on the earth, and I really do fully believe it was all meant to send me to her.
“I’m so grateful for the support and attention this has gotten; we can’t believe it.
“This means so much to us.
“We’re so happy our story brought joy to so many people’s lives.”
