A wine connoisseur has paired Mcdonald’s food with plonk.

Chris Cassell says a Big Mac goes perfectly with a glass of the red French tipple Burgundy.

The fast-food giant’s famous burger costs £4.59 compared to £21 for a decent bottle of wine.

A bottle of Veuve Cliquot bubbly typically costs £55.

Meanwhile, Sauternes, a sweet, white wine from Bordeaux costing about £40, matches well with the £1.19 McDonald’s Apple Pie.

Wine expert, Chris, 38, believes that high-end booze isn’t just for fine dining.

He holds £40-per-head tasting events, so guests can try five different vinos as Chris talks them through the pairings.

He hosts them at his Must and Lees wine shop and tasting room in Islington, North London.

Chris orders McDonald’s iconic items from Deliveroo to go with the booze.

Chris said: “We don’t all eat at Michelin-star restaurants most evenings.

”But most of us, like myself, like to drink wine in the evenings.

”There is a wine choice for anything you’re eating.

”I thought it would be interesting to focus on something you don’t traditionally have wine with.

“Prices are high at the moment and there are some great pairings available.

”Most people think ‘I can only think about pairing wine for a fancy dinner party or spending a fortune on premium wines’.

“But actually you can match any kind of wine with some things.”

Chris says that the key to finding the perfect pairing is all about balance.

He recommends fusing opposite flavors such as greasy fried chicken with a fresh wine with a higher acidity such as champagne.

He added: “A good example is fish and chips.

”We usually add something contrasting like lemon or vinegar because it contrasts nicely with fried breaded fish.

”We pair wine with McNuggets, Big Macs and chips.

”My favorite food pairing is Sauternes – a sweet wine from Bordeaux with the Apple Pie.”

The wine expert says that his event is more popular with younger guests.

It has been a huge success so far with the next events on July 19 and August 9 selling out.

Chris is also opening a second wine shop where he hopes to host similar events.
