Military officials scrambled two jets into action after a suspected UFO was spotted over a major airport.
The mysterious object, that appeared to be white in colour, was visible from the control tower.
Witness said it flew over the terminal building, travelled south above the control tower, and hovered there for some time.
It then remained stationary over the runway before suddenly vanishing.
Video footage shows a shiny object high in the sky, apparently hovering right above Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal, Manipur, India.
Airline personnel and members of the Central Industrial Security Force also saw the object from the ground.
Security forces issued an alert after the UFO was sighted over the terminal on 19 November.
Am Indian Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “Soon after, information about the UFO near the Imphal airport was received, a Rafale fighter aircraft from a nearby airbase was scrambled to go and search for the UFO.”
The Indian Air Force sent two fighter jets to investigate the sighting at around 2.30pm.
The IAF also suspended flight operations at the airport until the matter had been clarified.
An air force spokesperson said: “IAF activated its Air Defence response mechanism based on visual inputs from Imphal airport.”
The pilot returned without any luck and a second Dassault Rafale fighter jet was sent to investigate.
The second pilot also came back without any evidence of a UFO.

The IAF said: “The small object was not seen thereafter.”
The investigation lasted for three hours and operations resumed at the airport at around 5.30pm after the IAF gave clearance.
Three departing flights were delayed and two were diverted from the airport during the UFO checks.
