Neighbours called the emergency services after hearing the loud bangs yesterday (13 Feb) evening.
But when police and paramedics arrived on the scene tragic Nicoletta and Renée Amato were dead.
Their bodies were found close together.
By this point, suspect Sodano had fled the scene in Cisterna di Latina, Lazio, near Rome, Italy.
The 27-year-old was arrested nearby a short while later.
Desyrée is believed to have been his true target.
She reportedly saved herself by locking herself in a bathroom and escaping through the window.
Desyrée and Sodano had been together for a year, but she’d broken up with him a few days before the bloodbath.
The victims are believed to have lost their lives as they tried bravely to stop the policeman from harming Desyrée.
Nicoletta was a real estate agent and Renée was a student with a passion for dancing.
Sodano worked in the naval section of the Guardia di Finanza and was stationed in Ostia.
He reportedly showed no emotion during his arrest.
Prosecutors in Latina are investigating the case and have charged Sodano with double homicide.
