A soldier was saved by his phone during a firefight with a deadly guerrilla group after a bullet hit his mobile case.
Captain Javier Leal thanked his lucky stars after the near death experience.
He was struck in the chest by a bullet.
Luckily, Cpt Leal’s phone in his pocket stopped the projectile from entering his body.
He said: “Thanks to this mobile phone, my life was saved.

“God is with me.”
The soldier added: “I will come back stronger.”
However, sadly four of his colleagues were killed during the gun battle with elements of the Gulf Clan.
Seven others were injured in the armed confrontation.
The Colombian authorities are carrying out an offensive against the paramilitary group as part of the ongoing Operation Fortaleza.
Most of the fighting is taking place in Segovia, Antioquia Department, where troops are encountering armed combatants as well as anti-personnel mines and explosive devices.
General Helder Giraldo Bonilla, commander of the Military Forces, visited the lucky serviceman at the San Nicolás Clinic in Barrancabermeja where he is receiving treatment.
The general also spoke with the other wounded soldiers at the medical centre.
The military operation against the Gulf Clan continues.
