A group of football fans were in good spirits heading to an away match by taking their own OPTICS on the train.

The Portsmouth supporters were on the four-and-a-half-hour trip for their League One clash with Peterborough on Saturday (16 Mar).

But they tucked into Captain Morgan dark rum, Sierra tequila, and Tesco’s own brand Amaretto on the 126-mile rail journey.

They had the three bottles of spirits in pub-style optics on a table in the carriage at 8:30 am.

They then poured the measures into plastic cups on their trip from the south coast in Hampshire to the Cambridgeshire city.

The Pompey supporters also had a Thatcher’s cider, Red Bull, and Walkers Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli crisps on their journey.

Top of the league Portsmouth won the 3 pm kick-off against fellow promotion chasers The Posh – who sit fourth in the table.

The game ended 0-1 to the away thanks to a 77th-minute Kusini Yengi goal at the 15,000 Weston Homes Stadium.

Pompey fan Will Sumner was among the supporters and said: “Peterborough away.”

Fellow Portsmouth follower Alan Harris said: “Nice work lads.”

In January, Stevenage supporters were hailed for tucking into charcuterie on the way to an away match on the train.

They had Le Rustique camembert, chucks on cheddar, plus two different types of salami, cured ham, and grapes as they made their way to Portsmouth.
