A local man passing by at the time heard the bangs and found the 26-year-old lying on the ground.
He rushed her to a nearby hospital but she had to be transferred to a larger facility due to the severity of her injuries.
At the time of writing, her condition is critical, as reported on Need to Know.
The police are investigating the case and are interviewing her relatives and witnesses.
Family members said Santo’s ex-partner was reportedly furious after she broke up with him.
The case was first registered as robbery involving bodily injury.
But according to the police report, no belongings were taken from the victim.
They are now considering attempted femicide as the likely motive.
The suspect is alleged to have ties to drug crime in the gritty Batan slum, according to local media.
His name is being withheld, as are the ages of the victim’s son and daughter.
It’s not clear if he’s their father.
