The 31-year-old then plummeted to the rocks below after losing her footing.
She’d got tangled in her long skirt.
The photographs were taken in front of an old crooked tree on the cliff’s edge which is a popular spot with tourists.
The Chinese couple was on holiday in Indonesia, when tragedy struck at around 6am on Saturday (20 Apr).
Lihong and Zhang, 32, were visiting the Ijen volcano complex in East Java when they stopped to take snaps on the way to the crater to watch the sunrise.
They were with a group of tourists and a guide when the tragedy happened.
The guide warned tourists about the dangers of taking photos too close to the edge.
According to reports, Lihong took several selfies while maintaining a safe distance of around six to 10 feet from the precipice.
She then handed her phone to her husband for him to take a snap of her in front of the tree, situated close to the edge.
She tripped and fell around 246ft to her death.
The victim sustained fatal injuries to her upper body and head.
As the area is hard to reach on foot, it took over two hours for the emergency services to remove Lihong’s body.
The authorities have deemed her death as accidental.
Lihong’s body will be transported back to her native China for burial, as reported by Need to Know.
In February this year, a 53-year-old Polish tourist was found dead on the same volcano after setting out to hike to the crater.
Last year, the Ijen volcano complex was named a UNESCO Global Geopark.
