A small dog runs past him on the platform and the man gets to his feet to rescue it.
However, the swinging ride whacks him in the back and then nearly crushes him.
The shocking scenes were filmed by an onlooker at the Lençóis Paulista Commercial and Industrial Agricultural Fair, in São Paulo, Brazil.
The 31-year-old man was waiting in line for the pendulum ride when the accident took place.
He was treated by first aiders at the fair after being struck by the ride on Sunday (28 Apr).
The victim was patched up and sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The unnamed man required surgery, but did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
Several local reports said he sustained injuries to his legs.
Festival organisers confirmed that the young man’s condition is stable, as reported by Need To Know.
They also confirmed that the fair rides have all the necessary permits.
Organisers stated: “Facilpa reinforces its commitment to the safety of everyone who accesses the premises.
“The entire event, including the amusement park, has all the necessary documentation for operation.”
The police are currently investigating the incident.
