Shocking footage shows how a man strolls into a store, puts the female cashier into a headlock, and makes off with cash from the till.
The cowardly assault was caught on the minimarket’s security camera on 24 April.
The heavily-built man is wearing a face mask when he creeps up on the woman from behind and wraps his arm around her neck.
He pulls her backwards off her chair and tins fall off the shelves as the pair clatter into the wall.
The cashier appears to instruct the man how to open the till, but he keeps her subdued on the floor in a chokehold.
The man takes some banknotes from the till before marching the visibly-distressed woman to the back of the shop.
He reemerges and has a last rummage around before walking calmly out the front door.
Local media said he stole €130 (£111) from the business in Málaga, Spain, as the victim, Elisabeth, was cashing up.
Before leaving, he led her to the bathroom, where he allegedly pointed a knife at her abdomen and barked at her in English.
Elisabeth, 35, tried to explain to him that there was no cash in that room.
But he kept on strangling her and she could barely speak, according to reports.
She believed she was going to die, as reported on Need to Know.
She was left with acute pain in her neck and emotional trauma.
Elisabeth arrived in Málaga from Paraguay less than a year ago in search of a better life.
She had only been working at the minimarket for a few months when the assault happened.
She reported the incident to the police on Monday (29 Apr).
The suspect was arrested a day earlier (28 Apr) after putting a 38-year-old woman in a chokehold on a street in the centre of Málaga at night.
The woman managed to break free and officers caught him a short while later.
They then realised it was the same man caught on camera attacking Elisabeth.
His name is withheld, but he is said to be a 39-year-old African immigrant.
He is accused of violent robbery and a local court ruled on Tuesday (30 Apr) that he be kept in custody.
