The body of his wife Marisela Sandoval, also 34, was found next to the other vehicle.
The authorities say 150 shell casings were found at the scene.
Two of the couple’s children were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. Paúl Ezequiel, 17, died upon arrival. His sister Ángela, 14, died later.
The attack occurred on the motorway outside Parral in Chihuahua, northern Mexico on Sunday afternoon (5 May).
The couple’s youngest son, aged four, and Marisela’s mother Micaela Sandoval, 54, were injured and are receiving treatment.
According to reports, armed men opened fire on Marisela’s parents’ house early on Monday.
Two parked cars were damaged, but no deaths or injuries were reported.
Kevin sang and played multiple instruments in the popular folk group H Norteña, from El Paso in Texas, US.
H Norteña’s 2017 song Definitivamente has more than 194,000 views on YouTube.
In a chilling premonition, Kevin and the group were about to release a song called Si Dios me lleva con Él (If God Takes Me with Him) on Monday (6 May).
According to local prosecutor Juan Carlos Portillo, at least two members of the feared Sinaloa Cartel could be behind the murders, as reported on Need to Know.
He said the main line of investigation concerns issues arising from Marisela’s family’s horse racing track business.
The investigation continues.
