Remigio Ceballos Ichaso, Minister of the Popular Power for Interior, Justice and Peace of Venezuela, confirmed that two dead men were found at the scene.

He said both victims were from Mexico and that the plane was being used for international drug trafficking.
Ceballos stated that the aircraft was a Cessna C402B with the serial number 0347, as reported on Need To Know.
He added that it was being used “clandestinely for the international trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances”.
The Venezuelan authorities have yet to provide any information regarding the victims’ identities and the cause of the plane crash.

It is also currently unclear where the aircraft took off from and where it was headed.
Officials have yet to disclose whether there were any illegal drugs on board the Cessna aircraft at the time of the crash.
According to the International Narcotics Control Board of the United Nations (UN), the most seized drug in Venezuela between January and December 2022 was cocaine.
The main destination countries for the seized drugs were, in order of importance, the United States, Spain, Australia, Guinea, the Netherlands, Italy and South Africa.
Cocaine illegally produced in Colombia often passes through Venezuela and Brazil before being distributed in North America, according to the UN organisation.
