A pair of alleged shoplifters targeted two branches of Greggs 270 miles apart within 24 hours.

One crook was branded a “thieving t*at” as he walked out without paying for sarnies.

The other brazenly filled up a huge bag with goods in another branch.

One happened yesterday (17 Jul) at the Greggs in Festival Walk, Spennymoor, County Durham.

A shocked onlooker filmed as the grey-haired and bearded man, clad in grey joggers and an orange puffer jacket, ran out.

He was clutching two products in his hand.

One shop worker fumed: “You thieving t*at”

The six-second video then comes to an end.

Local, Melissa Wheeler fumed: “Whether it’s a sandwich or not. Theft is theft, surely?

Otherwise, you’ll just end up with thieves bombarding shops.

“It’s only a top. It’s only socks. It’s only a sandwich or a packet of crisps. It’s only a drink.

“There are people that would help if needed without people feeling they have the right to break the law or am I insane.”

Philip Mooney added: “He looked like he could do with a couple of ham and egg subs.

“Lock him up and throw away the key, for f*cks sake.”

Moreira Beatriz said: “Old man and teenagers, everyone steals from Gregg’s.

“UK is lost.”

The other happened on Tuesday (16 Jul) at the Greggs on Deptford High Street, Deptford, southeast London.

A man was seen taking things off the shelves and putting them in his white and green striped bag.

A shopper, who filmed a 16-second video, panned around as he then opened a fridge door.

Daisy Evans said: “I don’t understand why no one is stopping him.”

Brian Cowan quipped: “If you’re going to do crime, do it big once.”

Another joked: “Bet he left the vegan sausage rolls.”

The alleged thefts, not linked to each other, follow a spate of shoplifting amid the cost-of-living crisis.

In April, a man walked out of a branch of Greggs in Archway, north London, allegedly without paying, as reported on Need To Know.

Greggs, the Met Police and Durham Constabulary have been approached for comment.
