The lad stretches out his arms as he lands with a thud on the dirt several feet below.
He takes a short tumble down the steep slope before picking himself up and dusting himself down.
The clip was filmed at Mount Emei in Sichuan Province, China.
The mountain is known for its Tibetan macaque population where visitors often come into contact with the animal.
According to local media, the monkey likely lunged at the boy in a bid to snatch the food he was holding.
Despite the scare, he didn’t appear to have sustained any serious injuries in the tumble, as reported on Need To Know.
Local media say there has been an uptick in cases of Tibetan macaques harassing visitors at Mount Emei for grub.
The park authorities advise tourists not to yell or run if they encounter monkeys blocking their path.
Instead they say visitors should seek help from park staff.
