His father, Salvador, said the teen went for a swim but later disappeared from view.
Concerned, his dog jumped into the water to look for Marco but to no avail.
Footage shows the black canine swimming in the water while appearing to search for the teen.
Firefighters, paramedics and municipal police officers arrived at the scene in Tanque del Borrego in Aguascalientes State, located north of the Mexican capital Mexico City, to attempt to rescue the boy.
Tragically they found Marco’s trapped body at the bottom of the reservoir.
Authorities later transferred the deceased to a nearby morgue.
The area was cordoned off so the State Attorney General’s Office could start the corresponding investigation.
A video of the dog’s desperate attempts to find its owner has been widely shared on X, as reported by Need To Know.
One local commented: “Such a painful scene, the dog is showing love and affection for its owner.”
Jesus said: “Poor doggy.”
