“I was in the car at the time, there was no smoke, just loads of flames,” Oliver, from Paignton, Devon, told Need To Know.
“No one knows how it happened, all I know is the engine blew up.
“The flames went everywhere, the drive thru is still closed.”
The driver believes that the engine of the 2004 vehicle blew up while he was heading to the next window.
The incident occurred on 7 August.
Firefighters from Torquay and Paignton were called to the scene at 11.19 pm.
Flames spread to nearby fences and the McDonald’s building.
Damage was caused to both the exterior and the interior of the establishment.
The exterior suffered 25 percent fire damage with the interior suffering 10 percent.
McDonald’s has been approached for a comment.
