He slid about 100m (328 ft) down a steep slope so quickly, that no one could do anything to help.
Jonathan fell as the group was descending the Ortles-Cevedale massif at an altitude of 3,630m (11,909ft) in Valfurva, Italy.

Rescuers from nearby Sondrio located him, but were unable to revive him.
They airlifted his body down the mountain and took it to a morgue so his family could identify him.
The police in Bormio are now investigating the tragedy, as reported by Need To Know.

Jonathan was an experienced mountaineer but it is believed some sliding fragments from a small rockfall swept him off his feet.
He was from Valenza and worked at a production plant in San Giorgio Monferrato for a Swiss multinational specialising in packaging.
He leaves behind a wife and three children.
His son Lorenzo, 23, joined Serie D side Alessandria as a centre-back in July.

Before his transfer, he played for Pro Sesto, which competed in Serie C last season.
