His head was almost severed from a suspected chainsaw wound.
His death has baffled detectives, who are considering everything, from a work accident to murder.
Aaron’s body was found at 5,249 ft (1,600 m) above sea level in Marga near Terento, northern Italy.
Engl lived with his parents, older brother and younger sister on the outskirts of Terento.
He often went to work in the woods around Marga and knew the area well.
Coroners believe he died between 5 am and 6 am on Sunday (18 Aug), as reported by Need To Know.
The time of death makes a work accident seem the less likely explanation.
Furthermore, an accidental injury would more likely have involved a limb or his abdomen.
Moreover, the freshly felled trees were quite far from where his body was lying.
The police will study CCTV footage and the vehicle to determine his route and if anyone was with Engl at the time.
Terento mayor, Reinhold Weger said: “In a town of 1,800 people, everyone knows each other.
“Aaron was a cheerful young man and very active in local community groups.
“He was even the leader of the traditional dance – ‘Schuhplattler’ – group.
“This is a tragic loss for Terento and I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.”
