An undercover cop and two citizens have been filmed wrestling a man to the ground as the officer arrested the suspect for criminal damage.
In the shocking footage, you can see a bearded man being held by a member of the public and an undercover police officer.
A second citizen then joins the group to help and to stop the man resisting arrest.
The clip shows the member of the public making use of a headlock to wrestle the suspect to the floor.
An officer in uniform then joins the group as they attempt to put the suspect in handcuffs.
The two members of the public hold the man to the ground while the uniformed cop handcuffs him.
The undercover officer can be seen standing behind the group calling for backup.
The incident occurred at the street market on Whitechapel Road in London.
The arrest took place on 22 August, as reported by Need To Know.
Members of the public have been left shocked by the footage.
One stated: “Does he really need to be taken down like that? He certainly wasn’t doing anything wrong in my eyes.”
Another added: “Why take him to the floor? He wasn’t doing anything.”

Stephen said: “Zero need for the headlock takedown.”
Another said: “No need for the headlock, is this how people are treated now?”

Jam Press approached British Transport Police and Met Police for comment.
