An influencer grandmother with over five million followers has passed away.
Martha Hilda Acle Cardenas, known online as ‘Abuelita Martha’ – which translates to ‘Little Grandma Martha’ – became an online sensation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She began sharing videos of her taking part in online challenges and telling fun tales of her travels around her native Mexico.

Martha’s TikTok page quickly swelled to 5.2m followers and she also boasted over 200,000 fans on Instagram and 180,000 on YouTube.
She affectionately called her loyal fans her “grandchildren”.
Her real-life grandson Max, who also edited her videos, announced her passing on Monday (9 September).
He shared a photo of Martha proudly holding aloft her plaque from YouTube for amassing over 100,000 subscribers earlier this year.
Max wrote: “Fly high Martha.
“You filled the hearts of millions of people around the world with happiness.
“You shared joy, advice, and your stories inspired many people.
“Today, 9 September 2024, we mourn your loss, but you will always live in our hearts.
“Your millions of virtual grandchildren will remember you with love and affection.”
Users flocked to the comments to share their condolences.
One person commented: “Rest in peace and thank you for all the joy you gave us.”
Another user said: “What? No, please. My deepest condolences to her family, she made me so happy in every moment she gave us.”
Karen wrote: “We love you Grandma Martha, we will miss you. Sincerely, your grandchildren.”
Lilac remarked: “Rest in peace Grandma Martha, thank you for filling our hearts with love, smiles and hugs. We will always keep you in our memories.”
Cherry said: “Sometimes I forget that people are not forever.”
Martha’s family did not state how old she was when she passed away or the cause.
Her funeral will take place at the San José Church in Cuautitlán Izcalli near Mexico City at 4pm on 14 September 2024.
Martha posted her last video on TikTok on 28 July when she took part in the ‘protein challenge’ and posed with a stuffed toy avocado, as reported by Need To Know.
