A teen footballer died after being knocked out in a fight on his debut appearance.
Ismael Domínguez reportedly fell to the turf unconscious after receiving a kick to the back from a rival player.
The vicious brawl broke out on the pitch minutes before the final whistle.
As he lay on the grass, the 15-year-old received “two or three more kicks from other people”, according to his coach, Leonardo Vit.
Domínguez was reportedly not breathing and had a weak pulse when paramedics from both teams gave him first aid.
He was taken to a hospital in Asunción, Paraguay, and was later transferred to a second facility in the city.
He sadly died there from his injuries on Sunday (15 Sept).
Domínguez had only started training with Nacional FC from San Bernardino on 9 September.
The ill-fated match on Saturday (14 Sept), was his debut with the club.
His coach says the player who felled him with a kick is from Club Boquerón FBC from Asunción.
He was reportedly on the bench at the time but went onto the field to allegedly assault Domínguez.
The match was part of an U15 tournament organised by the Federación Paraguaya de Escuelas de Fútbol (Paraguayan Football Schools Federation).
Prosecutors have opened a homicide investigation into Domínguez’s death, as reported by Need To Know.
A 14-year-old suspect has reportedly appeared before the authorities to testify.
Domínguez reportedly dreamed of playing for Club Cerro Porteño in Paraguay’s top-flight Primera División.
He also had ambitions to play for Paris Saint-Germain in France.
He leaves behind “several” younger siblings, according to reports.
His devastated father, Isidro, said: “We need to educate our children and work together more as a society.”
Nacional FC stated: “Ismael Domínguez was a promising young player and a valuable member of our team.
“We are profoundly distressed by this tragedy and want to assure the community that we will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities.”
