Salazar then allegedly spent the subsequent weeks sleeping next to her rotting corpse
He is said to have eventually confessed to the crime to a security guard at the residential complex where they lived in the Peruvian capital Lima.
Salazar reportedly sent a photo of his wife’s dead body to the security official who immediately notified the police.
Officers found Paredes’ cadaver in a blanket next to several empty bottles of booze.
The authorities are currently waiting for the results of an autopsy to confirm her exact cause of death.
Salazar could be charged with femicide if the post-mortem proves she died of an external cause.
The victim had reported her husband for domestic violence at the local police station several times in the past, but they always ended up getting back together.
Neighbours said they used to hear the couple arguing regularly and suspected that violence was habitual, as reported by Need To Know.
