The body of a murdered mother has been found in her fridge just days after she spoke out about the dangers of domestic violence.
Milena Vitória Garcia de Barros, 22, was allegedly killed by her estranged partner in front of their two young children.
According to reports, the couple had recently split up, and ex, Marcos Vinicius, refused to accept it was over.
He went to the victim’s home last Fri (1 Nov) to pick up his five-year-old son for the weekend.
They also have a two-year-old daughter who stayed with her mum.
According to the victim’s stepfather, who later discovered the body, Vinicius sent a message to Garcia allegedly telling her that she would never see her son again.
However, he appeared at the victim’s home on Monday (4 Nov) morning to return their son and have a talk.
He then allegedly killed his former partner in front of the two kids after learning she was seeing another man.
He left the house in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and dropped the children off with a relative.
Vinicius then went to a nearby police station and reportedly turned himself in and was arrested.
Meanwhile, concerned neighbours, who were aware of the bitter breakup, contacted the victim’s stepfather after hearing screams coming from the house.
He went to her home after being unable to reach her on the phone and let himself in with a spare key.
He immediately noticed that the fridge was lying on the floor on its side.
When he opened it, he reportedly found Garcia’s body inside.
According to the stepfather, her corpse showed signs of violence.
After undergoing an autopsy, her remains were buried at Murundu Cemetery in Rio’s West Zone yesterday (5 Nov) afternoon.
Two weeks before her death, Garcia made two posts about domestic violence on social media, as reported by Need To Know.
One post featured several bloodstained T-shirts with captions such as “I p*ssed him off”, “don’t accept flowers as an apology”, “it was only once”, and “he’ll stop”.
In another post, she said: “Teach your son to never assault a woman and your daughter to never forgive an assault.
“The future will thank you.”
Vinicius faces charges of femicide and concealment of a corpse as the investigation continues.
