A tourist who climbed a fence to tease hyenas has been slammed by fuming animal lovers.

The foolish man leaned over the edge of the enclosure to face two of the animals.

He even stuck out his arm to them as one moved its front paws against the fence in a bid to get closer.

Bewildered witnesses could be seen watching on as the man made a dangerous pursuit to get the hyenas’ attention.

The wild animals – known for their laughing noises – are carnivores with sharp teeth and strong jaws that are easily able to crush and chew bones.

They are known to kill wildebeest or antelope in the wild.

The man’s behaviour has prompted the zoo to explore legal action as it received multiple complaints following the careless act.

The incident occurred at Taipei Zoo, in Taiwan, on Saturday (Nov 16)around 3:30pm.

Shortly after, the zoo revealed that it had been investigating, as reported by Need To Know.

It stated that they will be filing a legal complaint over the offence which affects public order and violates animal protection laws.

Tourists have also been reminded that they must strictly respect the rules for the safety of both the animals and other members of the public.

One animal lover – named Sophia – said: “Ignorance can really kill people.”
