A paving slab is blown high into the air as the mum stumbles into the chest-deep hole left behind.
The concrete slab strikes her on the shoulder on its way back down as Taipe tries to lift herself out of the hole.
A uniformed soldier, who happens to be standing nearby, runs towards her to help as the footage ends.
The scary scenes unfolded on Thursday (5 Dec) in Lima, Peru.
The soldier and others helped pull Taipe out of the hole and she was taken to a local hospital.
Medics diagnosed her with a fracture in her right shoulder, as reported by Need To Know.
At the time of reporting, she was due to have a CT scan to see if there were injuries to the tissues surrounding the fracture.
According to local media, the electrical box that exploded beneath the pavement is part of the traffic light system.
Local official Evelyn Vicente stated: “Further investigations will determine whether the cause was a power surge, an electrical fault, or poor maintenance.”
Some reports suggest the blast was caused by a short circuit.
Vicente has called for inspections of the traffic light system to avoid similar incidents.
