Catalina left the apartment she was staying at on the morning of 8 November with the hope of finding a new job.
She said goodbye to her boyfriend Andrés Cárdenas at 7am, but by 9:30am he was unable to contact her.
Her family reported her disappearance to the police immediately and using the signal from her mobile phone, they were able to locate her, as reported by Need To Know.
Catalina’s body was found face down in a paddock hours later in Bogotá, Colombia.
Just days later, an autopsy revealed that she had suffered sexual abuse, with her cause of death determined as strangulation.
Signs of defence were also discovered on the young woman’s body.
Catalina still had her belongings with her, including her mobile phone, wallet, and clothes, which ruled out robbery as a potential motive.
Her family were able to check information stored on her computer where they discovered she had been contacted by a former fellow student.
Identified as Ceci Ariza, he had offered her a well-paid job which related to audiovisual content as she was studying graphic design at the time.
The woman’s father, Luis, believes that his daughter was summoned to participate in a casting call at an alleged adult content production studio.
Catalina had completed two undergraduate degrees and was pursuing a third university degree.
The family has urged authorities to speed up the investigation, and the contents of Catalina’s mobile phone have remained with the Prosecutor’s Office.
So far, there have been no advances in the investigation that have allowed them to find the person responsible for the murder.
