A skilful driver outwitted carjackers by reversing away from them.

When the red Honda CR-V chased after him, he managed to give them the slip again.

The quick-thinking motorist’s manoeuvres were captured on the dashcam.

He was with his family when a SUV crossed over in front of them from behind a slow-moving lorry and reduced its speed.

This forced the man driving the car behind to slow down.

The lorry kept moving, but the SUV made a right turn in the road, keeping both lanes blocked.

Its doors flew open as it came to a stop and masked men armed with guns emerged.

One ran towards the car behind with his firearm pointed at the windscreen.

The driver’s mother can be heard repeating: “Move back!”

Her son zoomed away from the gunmen in reverse, shouting: “What do I do?”

The crooks bundled back into the SUV and hurtled towards the family at high speed the wrong way down the road.

Just as they swerved towards them in a bid to stop them in their tracks, the driver managed to shake them off with another deft manoeuvre.

He skilfully guided his car through the narrow gap between the SUV and the crash barrier before driving off at speed.

The drama unfolded on Wednesday (15 Jan) afternoon on the Mexico-Texcoco highway in Calpulalpan, on the outskirts of Mexico City, Mexico.

The unnamed driver has since revealed that his father, who was also in the car, was the one who first raised the alarm.

He told local media: “My dad notices a car coming. He says, ‘Look at that SUV, it looks like it belongs to narcos.’”

The driver also told how a passing Nissan gave him a lucky break, as reported by Need To Know.

He recalled: “I was trying to figure out what to do, like if they blocked us, where to go.

“Then a car on the left side sped up and, well, let’s just say it cleared the way for me.”
The driver went on: “Fortunately, they didn’t shoot at us.

“My reaction was to just dodge them and get away. We couldn’t stay there, I don’t know what would have happened to us.”

“I kept my foot on the gas, and then I saw them driving the wrong way on the hard shoulder as they fled.

“After that, I didn’t see them anymore.”

“I told my parents, ‘They’re gone, they’re gone, they’re not coming after us.’

“I didn’t see any police on the road, couldn’t get help from anyone, and we had no idea what those guys wanted from us.”

The police later found the red SUV in San Bernardo Tlamimilolpan – about half an hour’s drive away – and seized it.

It had been reported stolen on 4 January in Coacalco.
