CCTV images shows Karen arriving outside her home on her scooter.
As she dismounted her motorcycle, the two suspects ran around the corner and pointed their guns in her face.
She took off her helmet and used it to whack one thief.
She was then pushed onto a low wall as the other suspect yanked her hair.
His accomplice appeared to whack her over the head with his firearm.
But she rose up from the wall and fought back with steely determination, and chased one thief across the road before throwing punches at him.
The suspects then ran away from the scene.
The violent episode took place outside Karen’s home in Cúcuta located northeast of Bogotá in Colombia last Thursday (27 Feb).
Karen said she was struck by several strong blows to her face and head during the ordeal.
Many of her wounds required stitches.
She explained: “I parked my motorbike and two armed men approached me, hooded, completely covered.
“They started hitting me.

“To defend myself and not let them do anything, I took off my helmet and tried to hit them as best I could.”
Karen, a keen sportswoman who used to serve as a police officer, thanked her training for defeating the two gunmen.
She said: “Taking into account that I served in the National Police and also do sports training, I was empowered by the fact that I was capable of fighting those two men, to be honest.”
Her husband Luis David Jaramillo said: “If you watch the video, you can see her reaction.
“I think she was extremely brave because we usually say ‘if they tell me to stay still, I’m going to stay still’.
“Life usually comes first.”
After sustaining several injuries to her head and face, Karen filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police, as reported by NeedToKnow.
The investigation is ongoing.
One local said: “She’s a badass, good for her. Somebody’s got to stand up to these thugs instead of just rolling over and giving them what they want every time.”
Another added: “That’s a strong woman right there. Even in fear she defended herself and didn’t become a victim.”
A third remarked: “She’s a beast, she took some pistol slaps and everything.”
“That adorable dog did nothing until after they ran away,” said someone else.
Another local added: “That was a moral support dog.”
