One man died at the scene and another was injured.
The deceased has been identified as flight instructor Matheus Henrique Gomes de Toledo.
His student, Rodrigo do Nascimento Silva, was found trapped in the wreckage.
His rescue took about three hours and involved five vehicles from the fire brigade.
He was taken to a hospital in Itanhaém with injuries to his arms, legs and face.
The men had taken off from Itanhaém Airport and were on a training flight.
The single-engine plane belonged to the Itanhaém Aeroclub and was in regular condition, according to the National Civil Aviation Agency.
An emergency alert was issued 26 minutes into the flight.
However, the concessionaire that manages Itanhaém Airport has been unable to specify what the emergency was.

The plane crashed eight minutes after the alert, as reported by Need To Know.
No one in the village was injured, but some trees were felled, blocking the road leading to the residents’ homes.
