A property developer had a £1,350 jacket stolen from his Tesla before the brazen thief tried to return it to Harrods to get a refund.
Opinder Kaushal bought the Stone Island coat with cash from the luxury department store.
The 47-year-old put the bag in the boot of his red, £40,000 Tesla 3 which was parked up in the street nearby.

He then drove two miles from outside Harrods, in Knightsbridge to have lunch in Mayfair, also west London.

Opinder parked up in Green Street and when he returned the boot of his car had been broken into and cops were there.
The car’s inbuilt CCTV camera captured the moment the crook pulled up on a bicycle.
He carefully propped the bike up against the Tesla before smashing the bag window.

The thief reached in and grabbed the white, Stone Island bag with the coat inside and rode off at 3:40pm on Monday (10 Mar).
Opinder had left the receipt in the bag and because he paid in cash contacted Harrods about getting a duplicate one so he could claim on his insurance.
He said he was then shocked to be told by the store that the crook had gone in and tried to get a refund at 6pm that day.

Opinder, of Reading, Berkshire, said: “I went to Harrods and bought the jacket.
“I put it in the boot, it was not on show.
“Obviously someone collared me, putting it in the boot.

“I drove to Mayfair and parked up in Green Street.
“When I came back the police were there.”
Opinder also told Need To Know: “The receipt was in the bag.

“I went back to Harrods and told them what happened.
“I drove back home and then they said the thief came back.
“The staff confronted him and he ran away.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating a theft that occurred at around 3:50pm on Monday, 10 March in Green Street, W1.
“In which a man was reported to have stolen items from the back of a car.
“No arrest have been made at this stage. “Enquiries continue.”
Harrods has been approached for comment.
Londoner Stewart Huxley fumed: “Lawless London.”

Matthew Gordon said: “Next time put the jacket in a Primark bag.”
Another warned fellow shoppers and said: “Basic rule, never have shopping on display.”

But Jack Fox said: “The biggest mistake was buying a Tesla and Stone Island.
“Both overpriced c*ap.”
