A gran had an avocado-sized gallstone that was growing inside her removed by shocked surgeons.
The OAP – named Wei, 70 – was first diagnosed with gallstone problems during an examination two years ago.
She decided against further treatment at the time due to her age.

She also didn’t like the idea of having her gallbladder removed as she already suffered from digestive problems.
The large stone wasn’t causing her any discomfort at the time, but it quickly grew and began to put pressure on her nearby organs.

Her family members looked into different forms of treatment before deciding to undergo an operation at the Stone Disease Hospital in Guiyang, China.
It had a diameter of 7cm (2.7inch) and weighed 125g (4.4 oz), as reported by Need To Know.

Remarkably, surgeons did not need to remove any of the patient’s gallbladder to take out the huge stone.
The specialist team successfully removed it while preserving the elderly woman’s gallbladder.
They performed a three-mirror endoscopic technique that was considered minimally invasive.

The removed gallstone was dark in colour with a yellow top and an oily texture.
Doctors said they removed the stone just before the organ was “about to burst”.
Hospital deputy director Zhang Zhiyong said: “This is the largest and heaviest gallstone I have encountered in over 20 years of gallstone removal.
“And we successfully saved the gallbladder, which is very rare.”
