It seemed the digger was too large to pass under the bridge, and the excavator was stuck against the metal structure.
The digger was frozen in a diagonal slant.
The local fire service rushed to help the driver, who only suffered minor injuries.
Parts of the steel parts which made up the bridge were damaged, as reported by Need To Know.
After the incident, which occurred at around 4 pm on 29 March, the bridge was closed off so that the damage could be assessed.
Nearby roads were shut for a short time so that the digger could be removed safely.
According to local press, the bridge opened back up to the public on 30 March.
The incident occurred on the Maasbrug Bridge, which connects the provinces of Limburg and North Brabant, east of Eindhoven, in the Netherlands.
At the time, the driver travelled from Gennep to Oeffelt, both in the Netherlands.
