But the owner had other ideas.
CCTV showed one suspect speeding off on the bike – apparently abandoning his pal.
The other thief was seen running out of the shop and falling to the ground.
He seemed to drop his gun in the process.
The owner, named as Don Fer, then appeared with a large blade in his hand.
The thief got on his feet and tried to retrieve his gun, but instead clashed with the machete-wielding shopkeeper.
The suspect ran away as the owner slipped on the ground.
The thief was then able to catch up to his pal on the motorbike.
The shopkeeper was seen picking up the suspect’s gun before calling on a neighbour for help.
The alleged robbery attempt took place in the Mexican capital, Mexico City, last Wednesday (2 Apr), as reported by Need To Know.
The video went viral on X, with 145,000 views and hundreds of comments.
One local said: “They should give that man a medal for bravery, the world needs good people to clean up this scum.”

Another said: “That’s what we must do, arm ourselves and defend our lives, families, and assets, because the damn authorities are only there to ask for our votes, raise taxes, and steal our money.
Alonso remarked: “They will probably report him for attempted murder while the ‘victims’ will be freed, that’s how prosecutors act in this country.”
