He reportedly suffered a bullet wound to the chest and is being treated in hospital under police guard.
The authorities believe Alves killed his ex, 27, because he refused to accept that their relationship had ended.

Lais was fatally shot in her backyard in Brotas, located north-west of São Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday (6 Apr).
Her daughter was handed over to her biological father and the victim’s sister on Monday (7 Apr).
Lais was buried in her hometown of Eunápolis the following day, as reported by Need To Know.
She broke up with him in December last year, but he reportedly refused to accept the separation.
In the days leading up to her death, Alves allegedly started sending threatening messages to her mobile phone and showed up at her workplace.

As a result, she planned to move back to her hometown later this month.
Despite the strain on her life, she told a friend that she did not believe Alves was capable of killing her.
On the day of the shooting, a neighbour said she heard the pair arguing in the backyard.
The suspect insulted Lais and demanded to see her mobile phone.

When she refused, the neighbour said she heard multiple gunshots.
The alleged murder took place in front of Faustino’s young daughter.
The police arrived on the scene and found both bodies in the backyard.
A .38 caliber revolver with one live round and five spent rounds was found near the suspect’s body.
Lais passed away on the way to the hospital.

The medical report said she had suffered at least nine gunshot wounds to her chest, forearm and wrist.
Alves remains in hospital under police guard as the investigation continues.
